How it Works
Hydrotherapy can be beneficial for pets with a variety of different problems. Whether your pet just had surgery, is overweight, or is in pain from an orthopedic condition, hydrotherapy can help! Our Hydrotherapy treatments are done with a Tudor water treadmill. So how does it work?
We start by placing a special harness on your dog or cat and have them enter the treadmill chamber. The chamber slowly fills with warm water until it is at the perfect depth to provide your pet with benefits. The treadmill is then turned on and your pet starts walking. We often use peanut butter to motivate dogs and reward them for walking.
Why It Works
This is a beneficial form of hydrotherapy for many reasons. Since your dog or cat is walking against water, they have to work against it, which can actually help strengthen muscles. The water provides your pet with some buoyancy, which takes some weight off of various parts of your pet’s body, which may be experiencing pain. Because your pet is floating a bit, they are able to walk with more support. The regular pattern of the treadmill movement allows pets to walk at a correct rhythm. Because of this, hydrotherapy is a great option for pets who are paralyzed and may be able to help them start walking again. This rehabilitation treatment is a great option when treating a variety of issues and conditions.
