Meet The Team
Desiree Garthe, DVM, CVA
Veterinarian
Dr. Garthe has worked in the veterinary field for over 35 years. She started her journey in the industry following her high school graduation. She began working as a receptionist in a very busy veterinary hospital in the city of Chicago. She continued her employment in the veterinary world as a technician while putting herself through college. Once receiving her undergraduate degree in Chemistry she decided to further pursue a career in veterinary medicine. She attended the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and graduated with honors with a Doctorate Degree in Veterinary Medicine in May of 2001.
Dr. Garthe is a general veterinary practitioner whose professional interests are in dentistry, acupuncture, and rehabilitation. She is a certified veterinary acupuncturist and is currently working on a certification in canine rehabilitation.
She loves to spend her free time with her family which includes her husband, James; her 2 sons, Aidan and Owen; her Boston Terrier, Zeke; and her 2 cats Rocky and Ruby.
Angela Casey, DVM
Veterinarian
Dr. Angela Casey was raised in St. Louis County, Missouri. Her dad is an animal lover, so it’s no surprise she had a lot of dogs and cats growing up. Dr. Casey graduated from The University of Florida, College of Veterinary Medicine, in 1992. She has been a veterinarian with more than 30 years of experience and a deep knowledge of pet nutrition and integrative medicine. It will be a pleasure to help keep your beloved pet healthy! My goal is to provide a complete, integrated approach to wellness, nutrition, and pain management, tailored to each animal's needs. Dr. Casey has published an article in the IVC Journal, Winter 2016, titled The Integrative Management of Degenerative Myelopathy. Shawn
Educational Consultant
Shawn grew up in Wisconsin and Arizona. She has always had a love for animals which extended into adulthood where it influenced her to go into the veterinary field. Shawn considers her biggest accomplishment to be raising 3 sons along with her husband and earning her Master's degree. Shawn immensely enjoys the education and professional development side of veterinary medicine and has found great joy in being able to support veterinary assistants and staff in continuing to grow in the field.
What does Shawn love about working at PPAH? Shawn said that it is impossible to narrow it down to one thing- the staff, the level of care and compassion present at Paradise Point Animal Hospital, and the teamwork approach all make it an amazing place to be.
